LEH: Chief Secretary of the Union Territory of Ladakh, Ashish Kundra, along with Deputy Commissioner Leh, Romil Singh Donk, and other senior officials, today visited the Nimoo Bazgo Power Station in Alchi.

On the occasion, the Head of Project, Sanjai Kumar Rai, along with other senior officials of Nimoo Bazgo Power Station, welcomed the Chief Secretary, UT Ladakh and the Deputy Commissioner, Leh with traditional Ladakhi customs, reflecting the region’s rich cultural heritage.

During the visit, the Chief Secretary took detailed information about the operational aspects of the power station. Rai briefed him on the direct and indirect benefits of the Nimoo Bazgo Power Station to the people of Ladakh, highlighting its role in strengthening power supply, supporting local development, and contributing to regional growth.

The Chief Secretary appreciated the dedication and efforts of the officers and workers of the Nimoo Bazgo Power Station under the leadership of Sanjay Kumar Rai for efficiently managing operations while working under harsh climatic conditions.

He commended their commitment to ensuring uninterrupted power generation in the challenging terrain of Ladakh. The visiting officials also held discussions on the future potential of hydroelectric and solar power projects in the region, emphasizing the importance of sustainable and renewable energy for Ladakh’s long term development.

Officials from NHPC provided a detailed briefing on the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, outlining projects that are currently underway as well as those that have already been completed, aimed at benefiting local communities in areas such as education, health, and infrastructure.

Earlier, the Chief Secretary began his tour at Likir Sub-Division, where residents accorded him a traditional welcome. During a Public Darbar, villagers highlighted issues such as extension of abadi land, strengthening of healthcare services, full operationalisation of the SDM office, and development of youth facilities including a memorial park, library and gym in honour of Ashok Chakra awardee Naib Subedar Tsetan Mutup.

Responding to the demands, Kundra assured that Likir would be recognised as a pottery craft village and promised support for artisans, women trained in tailoring, and healthcare requirements based on population needs. He later visited exhibitions showcasing traditional pottery, handicrafts, weaving, wood carving and other indigenous art forms.

At the ancient Alchi Monastery, the Chief Secretary reviewed preservation efforts of centuries-old murals and heritage structures. He interacted with monks on conservation planning and safeguarding the authenticity of the artwork.

During the tour, Kundra paid obeisance at Gurudwara Shri Pathar Sahib, maintained by the Indian Army.

Later in the day, he held a Public Darbar at Ibex Colony, Leh, where residents raised concerns related to land allotment, lack of basic amenities, heating arrangements and stamp authority issues. Similar infrastructure-related demands were also voiced by representatives from Skalzangling.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Secretary said that planned urban development and civic facilities were essential for improving living conditions and the city’s overall image. He assured residents that their grievances would be examined by the concerned departments for timely action.

Deputy Commissioner Leh Romil Singh Donk and senior district officers accompanied the Chief Secretary throughout the visit to ensure follow-up on issues raised by the public.
