GANDERBAL: Chief Principal Census Officer (CPCO) and Director Census Operations (DCO), Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, Amit Sharma on Saturday stressed the need for accuracy, rigorous quality checks and complete coverage of all population groups while reviewing the ongoing House Listing Operations (HLO) under Census 2027 in Ganderbal district.
Chairing a review meeting at the Mini Secretariat, Sharma said the Census is the country’s largest administrative and statistical exercise and serves as the foundation for policy planning, resource allocation and socio-economic development. He directed enumerators, supervisors and Charge Officers to ensure that every entry is accurately recorded and thoroughly verified.
The meeting was attended by Principal Census Officer and Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal Jatin Kishore, Deputy Director General, Office of the Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India, Biswajit Das, and other senior officers associated with the Census exercise.
Officials informed the meeting that all House Listing Blocks (HLBs) in the district have been created and demarcated on the CMMS portal, while field operations, training programmes and awareness campaigns are progressing smoothly.
Emphasising data quality, Sharma directed supervisors to conduct regular field inspections and random verification checks to ensure strict adherence to Census guidelines. He also called for special attention to migratory and seasonal populations, tribal communities, forest areas and other special categories to ensure that no household or individual is left out of the enumeration process.
Highlighting the role of technology, the CPCO said digital data collection would improve efficiency and strengthen the reliability of Census information.
Later, addressing the media, Sharma appealed to the public across Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh to cooperate with Census officials and provide accurate information. He reiterated that all data collected during the Census is protected under Section 15 of the Census Act, 1948, and remains strictly confidential. He also cautioned citizens against cyber fraud, clarifying that Census officials do not seek bank account details, passwords, PAN or Aadhaar information during the exercise.
