Jammu, May 26 : Chief Principal Census Officer (CPCO) and Director Census Operations & Citizen Registration (DCO/DCR), Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, Amit Sharma on Monday reviewed the preparedness for Census 2027 in Jammu district and called for intensified awareness campaigns to ensure wider public participation in the ongoing Self-Enumeration exercise.
Chairing a review and orientation meeting with Deputy Commissioner Jammu Dr Rakesh Minhas and charge officers, Sharma appreciated the response generated so far through awareness and outreach initiatives undertaken by the district administration.
According to officials, the meeting reviewed the progress of Self-Enumeration, House Listing Block (HLB) demarcation and geo-tagging, training activities, media and publicity campaigns, mapping and jurisdictional updation, distribution of Census materials and financial preparedness related to Census operations in the district.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Vidhu Shekhar briefed the meeting on the progress achieved under various operational components and the Information, Education and Communication (IEC) measures being carried out to enhance public awareness regarding Census 2027.
During the review, Sharma observed that Jammu, being one of the largest and most diverse districts of the Union Territory, had witnessed encouraging public participation in the digital Census exercise through coordinated field-level mobilisation, citizen outreach initiatives and thematic awareness campaigns.
He directed officials to maintain the existing momentum during the remaining Self-Enumeration period and stressed the need for expanding awareness drives across urban, semi-urban and rural areas to ensure timely completion of the process.
The meeting was informed that all identified House Listing Blocks in Jammu district had been fully demarcated and geo-tagged as part of the preparatory framework for Census 2027.
Officials further stated that training programmes for Field Trainers, Enumerators and Supervisors had been completed successfully and Census functionaries had been fully oriented regarding digital Census applications and operational procedures for the smooth conduct of Census operations.
The review also covered media outreach activities, participation of dignitaries in Self-Enumeration campaigns, thematic publicity initiatives, updation of village and urban jurisdiction records, administrative boundary updates on the HLBC portal and maintenance of financial and operational documentation related to Census activities.
Emphasising the importance of accurate demographic data for governance and developmental planning, Sharma appealed to residents of Jammu district to actively participate in the ongoing Self-Enumeration exercise and complete their Census submissions within the notified timelines.
Before concluding the meeting, the CPCO extended his best wishes to Deputy Commissioner Jammu Dr Rakesh Minhas and his team for the conduct of the first phase of House Listing Operations (HLO) scheduled for June 2026.
