LAC Village Urgo Phobrang Gets 15kW Solar Plant

Leh, Sept 10: Councilor of Chushul Constituency, Konchok Stanzin, called for wider adoption of renewable energy while inaugurating a 15kW solar power plant in Urgo village today. He stressed that such initiatives are vital for improving living standards in remote hamlets of Ladakh while reducing dependence on traditional energy sources.
Stanzin lauded HDFC Bank Parivartan and Himmotthan Society for their persistent efforts in one of the most challenging terrains of the Union Territory. He noted that Durbuk block, with its short working season and extreme cold, poses unique difficulties for development work, yet projects like this demonstrate what focused partnerships can achieve.
In his address, the Councilor also drew attention to other initiatives underway in the region, including natural resource management programmes, smart schools, animal health camps, greenhouse activities, and the promotion of high-value crops, all contributing to the socio-economic resilience of rural households.
The inauguration was attended by Nambardar Konchok Lakdan, Lineman Sonam Stobgyas, Project Officer Stanzin Lakdan, and Junior Engineer Rigzen Norbu, who played a crucial role in the plant’s implementation.
With the commissioning of the 15kW solar facility, villagers of Urgo now look forward to steady electricity for household needs and extended community engagements after sundown. The development is expected to ease daily life and open new opportunities for growth.
The project, executed by Himmotthan Society with support from HDFC Bank Parivartan, has been welcomed as a stride towards clean energy adoption and rural self-reliance in Ladakh. For Urgo Phobrang, it marks a step towards sustainable rural development, with renewable energy paving the way for a brighter and more resilient future.
