378 School Leaders Trained by DIET, PARAKH & NCERT

Leh, Aug 18: “The Holistic Progress Card is a powerful step in helping schools track not just academic performance but the overall development of students,” said Bhanu Prabha, Secretary of School Education, UT Ladakh, while inaugurating a two-day orientation programme at Leh. She expressed gratitude to PARAKH and NCERT for deputing experts for the training and emphasized the need to adopt competency-based learning that prepares students for large-scale assessments reflecting the health of the education system.

The District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) Leh, in collaboration with PARAKH under NCERT, New Delhi, organized the programme on August 18 and 19 for Headmasters and Examination In-charges of high and middle schools across Leh district. The initiative is part of the wider national effort to align student assessments with the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

The orientation precedes the nationwide PARAKH Rashtriya Sarvekshan 2024, which will cover 75,565 schools and assess more than 22.9 lakh students in Grades 3, 6, and 9. The survey will evaluate learning in Language, Mathematics, Science, Social Science, and The World Around Us, generating insights into student outcomes and the overall performance of schools across government, aided, central, and private institutions. Building on the foundation of the National Achievement Survey, the Sarvekshan will assess schools as comprehensive learning environments.

Developed by PARAKH, the Holistic Progress Card represents a new approach to student evaluation. Unlike traditional exams focused only on academics, the HPC captures growth across multiple dimensions — cognitive, socio-emotional, physical, and creative — aiming to nurture well-rounded individuals equipped with knowledge, empathy, and creative skills.

Professor Indrani Bhaduri, CEO and Head of PARAKH, explained that HPCs have been designed for all stages of schooling — foundational, preparatory, middle, and secondary — through collaboration with states and union territories. After successful pilots across the country, they are now ready for nationwide implementation. She urged Ladakh to be at the forefront in adopting the framework, ensuring that assessments reflect holistic learning outcomes.

Mirza Mehdi, Principal of DIET Leh, extended gratitude to Prof. Bhaduri and the PARAKH team for their support. He said such collaborations strengthen Ladakh’s education system by introducing assessment models that are nationally relevant and future-oriented.

The programme drew active participation from 378 Headmasters and Examination In-charges across Leh. Expert resource persons from PARAKH and NCERT led detailed sessions on the structure and application of the HPC in the context of the National Curriculum Framework and NEP 2020, guiding schools on how to practically implement it to enrich student learning profiles.
