Leh, Oct 07: In a move aimed at easing restrictions and restoring full normalcy across the district, the District Magistrate, Leh, has issued a fresh order extending the operational timings for shops and confirming the reopening of all colleges.

However, there has been no decision on the reopening of University of Ladakh, Leh campus. The University campus shall remain closed on Wednesday.

The latest directive, issued by Ghulam Mohd (JKAS), Additional District Magistrate, Leh, states that all shops within Leh district shall now remain open from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM, a significant extension from the earlier restricted hours of 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

The order also directs that all colleges within Leh district shall remain open, allowing resumption of academic activities that had been affected during recent administrative restrictions.

This decision comes as a continuation of the District Magistrate’s previous order dated October 5, 2025, and follows a gradual relaxation of curbs that were imposed in response to recent disturbances. The administration noted that the extension of timings is intended to facilitate public convenience and revive daily economic activities, while maintaining law and order.

The order further clarifies that these relaxations are subject to strict adherence to the provisions of Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) 2023, ensuring that public discipline and peace are maintained.

The extended timings are expected to bring relief to local business owners and the public, who can now operate and access essential services for longer hours.

Authorities have appealed to the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and ensure peaceful conduct as normal activities resume across Leh district.

On Tuesday, the Higher Secondary schools were thrown open by the administration while from last Friday all schools up to Class 8 were thrown open with the situation limping back to normalcy after violent clashes on September 24 left four people dead in Leh.

However, they called for strict adherence to the prohibitory orders that ban assembly of five or more person. “It is hereby ordered that all shops and schools up to Class 8 within Leh district shall remain open, and small buses (public transport) shall be permitted to ply between 10 am and 6 pm on October 3, subject to strict adherence to the restrictions laid down under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita,” it read. The situation in the district began getting back on track when authorities relaxed the curfew.
