Srinagar, Dec 13: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday inaugurated Asia’s longest ski drag lift at the world-renowned Gulmarg ski resort, marking a significant boost to the region’s winter sports infrastructure, officials said.
The newly opened ski drag lift, located in the Kongdori area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, is expected to enhance the skiing experience for both professional athletes and tourists while positioning Gulmarg more prominently on the global winter sports map.
In addition to the drag lift, the chief minister also inaugurated the world’s highest revolving multi-purpose hall at the Affarwat area of the resort. The unique structure, which also features a restaurant, is designed to promote tourism and provide visitors with a panoramic view of the surrounding snow-capped peaks.
Sharing details on social media, the Chief Minister’s Office posted on X, formerly Twitter, that the new installation is a “landmark addition” to Gulmarg’s Baramulla district, tourism infrastructure and a testament to the government’s commitment to promoting adventure tourism in Jammu and Kashmir.
Abdullah is also scheduled to attend the curtain-raiser event for the 17th annual convention of the Adventure Tour Operators Association of India later in the day.
