Srinagar, Dec 13: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah inaugurated Asia’s longest ski drag lift at the renowned Gulmarg ski resort—India’s ‘skiing capital’—on Saturday, boosting the region’s winter sports infrastructure, officials confirmed.
In a parallel development, Abdullah unveiled the world’s highest revolving multi-purpose hall in Gulmarg’s Affarwat area, complete with an integrated restaurant offering stunning panoramic views.
The 726-metre Kongdori ski drag lift, constructed at a cost of Rs 3.65 crore, will transport skiers efficiently up the slopes via a moving bar system, significantly elevating Gulmarg’s facilities in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district. The Chief Minister’s Office highlighted on X that this “landmark addition” will solidify Gulmarg’s reputation on the global winter sports circuit.
Abdullah also dedicated tourism projects worth over Rs 17 crore across Gulmarg and nearby areas, reinforcing Jammu and Kashmir’s stature as a top international winter destination.
