LEH, Mar 29: Chief Justice of India (CJI) Justice Surya Kant inaugurated the new District Court Complex at Melong Thang in Leh today, a major upgrade to Ladakh’s judicial infrastructure costing Rs 54.85 crore. He also launched the adjacent Ladakh Legal Services Authority building (Rs 5.70 crore).
The event drew Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena, High Court Chief Justice Arun Palli, Justice Sindhu Sharma, and senior officials. CJI Kant received a guard of honour, traditional welcome, and unveiled a commemorative plaque. Officials showcased modern courtrooms, admin blocks, and residences; he inspected the Principal District Judge’s court and the High Court Guest House.
Dignitaries joined a plantation drive. Speaking to media, Justice Kant praised the facilities for enhancing justice access in Leh long-term and revealed plans to inaugurate Kargil’s similar complex soon.
Chief Secretary, DGP, and other civil-judicial leaders attended. The complex promises stronger justice delivery across Ladakh.
