Srinagar, Jan 7: The Counter Intelligence wing of Jammu and Kashmir Police launched a major operation on Wednesday, conducting simultaneous raids at multiple locations across the Kashmir valley as part of an ongoing investigation into a cyber terror case, according to official sources.
The Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) has intensified its crackdown on mule bank accounts, which are being used to facilitate cyber frauds and channel terror funding in the region. Police authorities have significantly tightened their surveillance and enforcement measures against such accounts that serve as conduits for illegal financial transactions, officials revealed.
In a coordinated action, the CIK conducted searches at 22 separate locations throughout the Kashmir valley during the operation. The raids were concentrated primarily in Srinagar district, where enforcement teams descended upon 15 different sites across the city. The remaining seven locations were spread across other parts of the valley, sources said.
The operation is part of a broader investigation by the Counter Intelligence wing into cyber terrorism activities and the misuse of financial networks for funding anti-national elements. Mule accounts—bank accounts that are used to transfer illegally obtained money—have emerged as a critical link in the chain connecting cyber criminals and terror operatives with their funding sources.
Officials indicated that the crackdown represents a significant escalation in efforts to dismantle the financial infrastructure supporting both cyber fraud networks and terror-related activities in the region. The simultaneous nature of the raids across multiple locations suggests extensive pre-operational planning and intelligence gathering by the CIK.
Further details regarding the operation, including any seizures, arrests, or specific findings from the searches, were awaited at the time of reporting. Authorities are expected to provide additional information as the investigation progresses.
