Leh, Sept 12: A three-day capacity-building programme for Community Health Officers (CHOs), Adolescent Friendly Health Clinic (AFHC) counsellors, Block IT staff, and District Education Officers (DEOs) of Khaltsi block concluded at Pal Hotel, Leh, on Thursday.

The training, held from September 9 to 11, aimed at strengthening the delivery of health services at the grassroots level.

The opening day featured Rashtriya Kishor Swasthya Karyakram (RKSK) training conducted by District RKSK Coordinator, Dawa Tsering. His sessions focused on adolescent health with stress on mental well-being, nutrition, reproductive health and community outreach. Later in the day, State Consultant of the National Health Mission (NHM), Stanzin Angmo, spoke on the Comprehensive Primary Health Care (CPHC) programme. She underlined the role of CHOs in integrating services and improving primary health delivery.

On the second day, participants underwent training on Reproductive and Child Health (RCH) 2.0, facilitated by State ITO, Jigmet Namgyal, along with District ITO, Amir. The session provided hands-on guidance on maternal and child health, data reporting, and programme implementation strategies.

The final day included a session on the Saksham Portal followed by a detailed orientation on climate change and heat-related illnesses under the National Programme on Climate Change and Human Health (NPCCHH). District Health Officer and Nodal Officer, Dr Yangchan Dolma, addressed health impacts of climate change, management of heat-related illnesses, and community-level preventive measures. Pre- and post-tests along with group activities added an interactive edge to the programme, enhancing the ability of CHOs to detect early warning signs, provide first aid and spread awareness.

The three-day initiative was seen as an important step towards equipping health personnel of Khaltsi block with the knowledge and skills required for efficient and responsive health service delivery.
