Leh, March 10: With the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls scheduled to commence across Ladakh in April, Chief Electoral Officer Rahul Sharma on Monday directed election officials to accelerate preparations and ensure accurate verification of voters during a review meeting held in Leh.
The meeting, convened at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall, focused on assessing the readiness of polling stations and resolving operational challenges ahead of the revision exercise. Sharma chaired the session in the presence of Electoral Registration Officer and Additional Deputy Commissioner Leh, Mukul Beniwal; Assistant Chief Electoral Officer Delex Namgyal; Deputy District Election Officer Leh Padma Angmo; the Assistant Electoral Registration Officer and Tehsildar Leh, along with Booth Level Officer supervisors and Booth Level Officers from Tehsil Leh.
Reviewing the current status of polling infrastructure, the Chief Electoral Officer examined issues reported from various polling stations. Concerns presented by the Assistant Electoral Registration Officer were discussed at length, with directions issued for their timely resolution so that the revision process proceeds without disruption.
Emphasising the importance of accurate voter records, Sharma interacted with Booth Level Officers and instructed them to conduct thorough verification of electors in their respective polling areas. Officials were asked to carefully update electoral rolls and ensure that eligible voters are correctly reflected in the records.
To manage polling stations with larger elector populations, Booth Level Officers were directed to facilitate the appointment of an additional functionary, designated as BLO-2, in locations where the number of voters exceeds 500. Updated details regarding such appointments are to be shared with the Assistant Electoral Registration Officers for consolidation.
The Chief Electoral Officer also underscored the need for reliable logistical support, including stable internet connectivity and the availability of printing facilities, to enable seamless execution of the revision process.
Discussions during the meeting also covered the mapping of electors recorded during the 2005 revision exercise with the latest electoral rolls, alongside other field-level issues reported by Booth Level Officers. Queries raised by the officials were clarified during the interaction.
The meeting concluded with instructions for close coordination among all election staff to ensure the orderly and efficient conduct of the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in the district ahead of the upcoming electoral cycle.
