ANANTNAG: Chief Principal Census Officer (CPCO) and Director Census Operations, Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, Amit Sharma on Monday reviewed the progress of ongoing House Listing Operations (HLO) under Census-2027 in Anantnag, directing officials to maintain strict accuracy standards and ensure complete coverage of all households, including migratory and tribal populations.

Chairing a district-level review meeting, Sharma described Census data as the foundation of future development and governance, asserting that the exercise would shape planning, resource allocation and socio-economic policies for years to come.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Director General, Ministry of Home Affairs, Office of the Registrar General of India, Biswajit Das; Principal Census Officer and Deputy Commissioner Anantnag, Dr Bilal Mohuddin Bhat; senior Census officials and district functionaries.

Reviewing preparedness, Sharma appreciated the district administration’s efforts but cautioned that even minor errors in data collection could affect the quality of Census outcomes. He directed charge officers to intensify field inspections, undertake random quality checks and ensure strict adherence to Census guidelines.

Special emphasis was laid on the enumeration of migratory populations, forest-dwelling communities and tribal groups. Sharma instructed field teams to track migration routes and verify household information to ensure that no eligible individual is excluded from the exercise.

During the meeting, Biswajit Das interacted with enumerators, supervisors and charge officers to gather field-level feedback, which will be utilised to strengthen preparations for the upcoming Population Enumeration phase scheduled between September 2026 and February 2027.

Officials informed the meeting that all House Listing Blocks in Anantnag have been created and demarcated on the CMMS portal and that field operations are progressing as planned.

Later, briefing the media, Sharma appealed to residents of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh to cooperate with enumerators and provide accurate information, stating that reliable Census data remains critical for informed governance and equitable development.
