Kochi, Mar 8: Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar hopped aboard Kochi’s water metro Saturday, cruising the scenic backwaters and hailing it as a blueprint for urban transport across India.
During his two-hour trip to Fort Kochi terminal, the IIT Kanpur alum praised the system’s comfort, tech smarts, and efficiency—a far cry from the basic water transport he knew while serving as Kerala’s district collector years ago.
“Kochi’s transformed dramatically—this water metro proves it,” Kumar said, per Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL). He spotlighted its passenger perks and suggested replicating it nationwide: “Wherever there’s water, build this. It’s replicable gold.”
Kumar also saw potential in metros and water taxis for voter awareness campaigns on elections and democracy.
