Kargil, Sept 09: Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC Kargil, Dr Mohd. Jaffer Akhoon on Tuesday said that Education, Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, and Fisheries are the backbone of our economy and vital sources of employment generation.

Highlighting the role of allied sectors, the CEC said that these sectors are steadily flourishing in Kargil with the enthusiastic participation of educated youth.

Akhoon attended the concluding ceremony of the two-day Exhibition-cum-Kisan Mela 2025, organized under the National Mission on Agricultural Extension and Technology (ATMA) at Auditorium Hall, Kargil.

Speaking on the occasion, CEC Dr. Jaffer Akhoon congratulated the Agriculture Department for successfully organizing the mela and said that such initiatives create greater awareness about the potential of agriculture in Kargil, while inspiring youth to actively engage in the sector.

Dr. Akhoon emphasized the growing market value of local products, noting that sea buckthorn and apricots have already gained recognition at national and international levels. He further pointed out that mushroom cultivation also holds strong potential to flourish in wider markets.

He assured that LAHDC Kargil will continue to extend full support to farmers and entrepreneurs working in agriculture and allied fields.

The CEC further informed that skill-based courses are being introduced in various colleges of Kargil to build sustainable livelihoods for youth.

He also noted that under the chairmanship of the DC Kargil, different departments are conducting awareness programmes at the panchayat level to ensure maximum benefit of incentive-based government schemes. Dr. Akhoon urged the youth to participate actively and avail these schemes to the fullest.

Speaking at the event, Executive Councillor Aga Syed Mujtaba called upon the departments of Agriculture, Horticulture, Fisheries, and Animal & Sheep Husbandry to work in close coordination to maximize outreach and ensure that benefits of schemes reach people effectively.

He also urged the public to optimally utilize the resources and opportunities being provided by the government.

In his address, Deputy Commissioner Kargil Rakesh Kumar appreciated the efforts of the Agriculture and allied departments in organizing the mela and spreading awareness about government schemes.

He announced that the district administration will soon organize larger awareness programmes at the panchayat level across all departments so that more people can benefit from the subsidy-based initiatives. He particularly encouraged the youth to take advantage of these schemes for their socio-economic empowerment.

The two-day Exhibition-cum-Kisan Mela 2025 witnessed enthusiastic participation from diverse sections of society and served as a vibrant platform for knowledge-sharing, capacity building, and promotion of agricultural entrepreneurship in Kargil.

The mela featured stalls from the Agriculture Department, Agri-Tech, RSETI, LOGIC, Baseej-e-Zaraat, PM Kisan, KVK-I, KVK-II, alongside exhibits by progressive farmers showcasing local produce and innovations.

The event was graced by Executive Councillor (RDD) Er. Phunchok Tashi, Executive Councilor Aga Syed Mujtaba Mosavi, Deputy Commissioner and CEO LAHDC Kargil Rakesh Kumar, Director Horticulture Ladakh, Joint Director Finance Kargil, Assistant Commissioner Revenue Kargil, officers and officials of the Agriculture Department, along with a large gathering of students, progressive farmers, entrepreneurs, and women farmers.
