KARGIL: Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC Kargil, Dr Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, on Saturday directed executing agencies to accelerate the pace of developmental works across the district and ensure the timely completion of projects that have reached advanced stages of execution, while reviewing the physical and financial progress of ongoing schemes.
Chairing a high-level review meeting at the Council Secretariat, the CEC assessed the status of projects being implemented under various development programmes, including the State Development Plan (SDP), Capex Budget and other infrastructure initiatives. The review focused on project-wise progress, expenditure patterns, completion timelines, pending liabilities, compensation payments and administrative bottlenecks affecting implementation.
A major focus of the meeting was on projects that have already attained substantial physical progress and are nearing completion. Dr Akhoon directed departments to prepare a consolidated list of works that have achieved 70, 80 and 90 per cent completion and ensure their execution is completed within the stipulated timeframe, particularly ahead of the proposed visit of the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh.
Emphasising the importance of timely project delivery, the CEC said delays in execution undermine the objective of development programmes and postpone the benefits intended for the public. He instructed all executing agencies to adhere strictly to approved timelines and strengthen monitoring mechanisms to ensure steady progress on the ground.
The meeting also reviewed issues related to pending compensation payments and outstanding liabilities. Dr Akhoon directed the concerned departments to expedite the settlement of such cases in accordance with established procedures and avoid delays that could affect project implementation.
Stressing the need for administrative efficiency, the CEC called for the prompt processing of approvals, financial sanctions and other procedural requirements for new works. He urged departments to maintain close coordination and regular follow-up to ensure quality execution and sustained progress on priority infrastructure projects across Kargil district.
The meeting was attended by Executive Councillor Aga Syed Mujtaba, Superintending Engineer R&B Dr Tsering Thinlas, Executive Engineer KDA Aga Syed Mehdi, Executive Engineer R&B Kargil Mansoor Hussain, Executive Engineer I&FC and PHE Ghulam Hussain, Executive Engineer REW Fiza Bano, In-charge Executive Engineer R&B Sub-Division Sankoo Iftikhar Hussain and other concerned officials.
