Leh, Oct 04: Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) of LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, on Saturday visited Leh to express solidarity with those affected by the September 24 protest, which claimed four lives and left several injured.
Dr. Akhoon began his visit at SNM Hospital, where he met the injured undergoing treatment. He was briefed by the Medical Superintendent and attending doctors on the condition of the patients, some of whom have been shifted to SKIMS Soura, Srinagar for advanced care. He conveyed wishes for their recovery and lauded the hospital staff for their timely response.
Later, the CEC met the families of the four deceased protesters. Offering condolences on behalf of LAHDC Kargil and the Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA), he assured the bereaved that their grief was shared across Ladakh. He also conveyed solidarity messages from KDA Co-Chairman and former Cabinet Minister Qamar Ali Akhoon.
Dr. Akhoon proceeded to the Leh jail, where several protesters, including LAHDC Leh councillors, Numbardars, and local residents, remain in custody. He interacted with the detainees and pledged to escalate their concerns to higher authorities.
Calling for a fair and impartial judicial inquiry into the September 24 incident, the CEC said the matter had already been raised in New Delhi by MP Ladakh alongside KDA representatives. He reiterated that LAHDC Kargil and KDA, in coordination with the Apex Body Leh, will persist with their joint four-point agenda that reflects the aspirations of Ladakh’s people.
