New Delhi/Kargil: CEC Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon on Saturday briefed Additional Secretary (Health) Dr. Vinod Kotwal and NHM Additional Secretary Aradhna Patnaik on the pressing gaps affecting healthcare delivery in Kargil district, stressing that remote communities continue to struggle with limited access. He reiterated the council’s commitment to securing reliable, equitable and improved services for residents across Kargil.
During the meeting in New Delhi, the LAHDC Kargil chief outlined a set of proposals aimed at strengthening infrastructure, manpower and medical training within the district. He urged the Centre to facilitate the creation of new Ayushman Arogya Mandirs and sub-centres in difficult terrain where primary health services remain scarce.
Dr. Akhoon also pushed for upgrading existing AAMs into Nursing and Paramedical Training Centres to boost local technical capacity. A request was made to elevate selected Primary Health Centres to Community Health Centres to support secondary-level care.
The CEC further sought the conversion of the AMT School into a nursing college to expand professional training opportunities and pressed for an overhaul of District Hospital Kargil through modern equipment, improved infrastructure and broadened diagnostic services. He reiterated Kargil’s long-standing demand for a Mini-AIIMS to bring specialised treatment closer to the population.
Sanctioning additional ASHA worker posts, he said, would help reinforce community-level outreach in remote belts.
According to officials present, the Additional Secretaries heard the submissions carefully and conveyed that the proposals would be assessed under the Health Ministry and NHM frameworks. Dr. Akhoon expressed gratitude for their response and restated LAHDC Kargil’s commitment to advancing healthcare delivery across the district.
