Phnom Penh, Feb 1: Cambodia arrested 2,044 foreigners from eight nationalities in a sweeping raid on a 22-building casino complex in Svay Rieng province’s Bavet City, near the Vietnam border, targeting online scams.
Ministry of Interior spokesperson Touch Sokhak emphasized the government’s unrelenting stance: “Cambodia is not a safe haven, but a hell for criminals.” The Saturday operation underscores the nationwide crackdown to safeguard security and public order.
Last week’s Ad-Hoc Committee report noted 5,106 scam suspects from 23 nationalities arrested in seven months, with 4,534 deported.
