NEW DELHI, APR 1: The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) is scheduled to meet at 7 pm on Wednesday in the national capital to review developments amid the escalating conflict in West Asia.
The situation in the region sharply worsened after a joint US–Israel military strike on Iranian territory on February 28, which led to the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and other senior figures, triggering a fierce response from Tehran.
A week earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had chaired a CCS meeting to assess the impact of the West Asia conflict and the ongoing and proposed mitigating measures. According to the Prime Minister’s Office, Cabinet Secretary gave a detailed briefing on the global situation and the steps taken and planned by all concerned ministries and departments.
The meeting examined the expected impact and mitigation measures across key sectors such as agriculture, fertilisers, food security, petroleum, power, MSMEs, exporters, shipping, trade, finance, supply chains and other affected areas. The overall macro‑economic scenario in the country and additional measures to be taken were also discussed.
The CCS reviewed how the conflict would affect India in the short, medium and long term, with a focus on countering energy and food‑security risks. A detailed assessment was made of the availability of critical essentials for the common people, including food, energy and fuel, and short‑, medium‑ and long‑term measures were chalked out to ensure their uninterrupted supply.
The meeting also looked at the impact on farmers and fertiliser availability for the Kharif season. Officials noted that the measures taken over the past few years have built up sufficient fertiliser stocks, and alternate sources were discussed to safeguard future supply.
It was further decided that adequate coal stocks at all power plants would be maintained to prevent any electricity shortage in the country.
