JAMMU : Students honoured their teachers and received blessings in return as Bharat Vikas Parishad’s Gandhi Nagar branch organised a Teacher Veneration and Student Felicitation programme at S.D. Tarapuri Public High School, Gandhi Nagar, on Monday.
The event brought together educators, students and members of the social organisation to celebrate the teacher-student relationship and underline the importance of respect, trust and value-based learning in education.
Principal of S.D. Tarapuri Public High School, Ms. Neeru Puri, attended the function as Chief Guest, while Prof. Sharat Chander Sharma, President of the Gandhi Nagar branch of Bharat Vikas Parishad, presided over the programme. Arun Kumar Sharma, Regional Convener, Gatividhi Sanskar, Bharat Vikas Parishad, was the main speaker, while Smt. Sunita Gupta, President of the organisation’s Jammu Kashmir Ladakh unit, attended as the distinguished guest.
A highlight of the programme was the ceremonial interaction between students and teachers. Students expressed their gratitude by showering flower petals on their teachers, applying ceremonial marks on their foreheads, garlanding them and presenting them with pens as tokens of respect. Teachers reciprocated by blessing the students and presenting them with notebooks, pens and toffees.
Addressing the gathering, Arun Kumar Sharma said the programme was intended to strengthen the bond of affection, respect and understanding between teachers and students. He observed that a healthy educational environment depends upon strong interpersonal relationships within the classroom and beyond.
Speaking on the occasion, Sunita Gupta elaborated on the objectives and activities of Bharat Vikas Parishad. She said the organisation works to promote social connectivity, cooperation, value-based education, service and dedication through its various initiatives across the country.
Chief Guest Neeru Puri appreciated the gesture of students honouring their teachers and praised the organisers for conducting the programme. She expressed hope that educational institutions would continue to participate in similar activities aimed at fostering values and strengthening social responsibility among young learners.
In his presidential address, Prof. Sharat Chander Sharma emphasised that mutual respect and trust are essential for the effective transmission of knowledge from teachers to students. He noted that educators play a crucial role in shaping future generations and that society must continue to uphold the dignity and responsibility associated with the teaching profession.
Earlier, the programme commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp. Branch Secretary Chander Uday Sharma welcomed the guests and outlined the purpose of the event, while Mrs. Rajni Gupta conducted the proceedings.
The function concluded with the National Song and the National Anthem.
