Leh/New Delhi, Aug 20: “Blood is the lifeline of humanity, a gift that cannot be manufactured but only given through compassion and sacrifice.” With these words, Ladakh’s Lieutenant Governor, Shri Kavinder Gupta, opened the Raktaveer Sammaan Samaaroh organised by the International Vaish Federation (IVF) in the capital, paying heartfelt tribute to the selfless service of voluntary blood donors.

Addressing a packed gathering of parliamentarians, community leaders and citizens, Shri Gupta hailed blood donors as “real heroes whose silent service saves countless lives.” He underlined that blood donation is not an act of charity but “a true daan in its highest form — an offering that gives life and hope to those in despair.”

The Lt Governor praised the International Vaish Federation for embedding the practice of blood donation into the social fabric and inspiring the younger generation to step forward in service to society. “Regular voluntary blood donation strengthens the healthcare system and builds a spirit of collective responsibility,” he said, adding that such efforts demonstrate the noblest face of humanity.

Invoking the lines “Desh Hamen Deta Hai Sab Kuchh, Ham Bhee To Kuchh Dena Seekhen,” Shri Gupta called upon citizens to recognise their duty towards the nation. “Just as the country provides us with opportunities, protection and progress, it is our responsibility to give back. Voluntary blood donation is one of the most meaningful ways to repay that debt,” he declared.

Turning to the broader canvas of national unity, Shri Gupta emphasised the importance of harmony under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “Collective strength is the true pillar of a strong India. By rising above differences and serving humanity together, we can contribute to the vision of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas,” he said.

The evening’s highlight was the felicitation of 79 outstanding donors, honoured as ‘Raktveers’. Among them were 63 individuals who have each donated blood more than 50 times and 19 who have achieved the rare distinction of donating over 99 times. Their commitment to humanity drew standing ovations from the audience, underlining the profound respect they command.

In his address, IVF’s International President, Shri Ashok Aggarwal, spoke of the Federation’s continued efforts to encourage blood donation across the country. He recalled that on IVF’s Foundation Day in July, camps organised nationwide drew overwhelming participation, demonstrating the growing awareness among citizens of the role they can play in saving lives. “Our Raktveers show how one individual’s contribution can bring hope to many,” he said.

The ceremony drew an impressive roster of leaders, with Members of Parliament from both Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha in attendance. Among them were Shri Naresh Bansal, Shri Ashok Mittal, Smt. Dharamshila Gupta, Shri Sujeet Kumar, Shri Rameshwar Teli, Shri Damodar Agarwal, Shri Sudhir Gupta, Dr. Sanjay Jaiswal, Shri Atul Garg, Shri Brijmohan Agarwal, Shri Sudama Prasad and Shri Manna Lal Rawat. Former MPs Dr. Anil Agarwal and Shri Rajender Agarwal were also present.

As the event drew to a close, the gathering resonated with a collective appeal — to imbibe the spirit of the Raktveers and contribute to nation-building through selfless service. The recognition of donors not only celebrated their personal commitment but also underscored a larger message: that unity, compassion and sacrifice remain the bedrock of a strong and resilient India.
