Jammu, Nov 09: Senior Congress leader and DDC Suchetgarh member Taranjit Singh Tony on Saturday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of converting the Nagrota by-election into an “emotional spectacle” through its “Sacchi Shraddhanjali” campaign, which seeks votes for Devyani Rana, daughter of late BJP leader Devender Singh Rana.
Tony alleged that the ruling party was “misusing emotions for political mileage” instead of addressing pressing public issues. “BJP has replaced dialogue on development, unemployment, and inflation with emotional blackmail,” he charged, claiming that the campaign was designed to “divert public attention from the Modi government’s failures.”
Calling the BJP’s appeal in the name of the late leader a “calculated bid to harvest sympathy votes,” Tony said the party’s campaign slogan, “Sacchi Shraddhanjali”, was “nothing but a ploy to exploit people’s sentiments in Nagrota.”
Taking a dig at the saffron party, Tony said the BJP’s actions expose “sheer double standards” on dynasty politics. “The same party that vowed to end ‘parivaarvaad’ is now nurturing family politics to cling to power,” he remarked.
The Congress leader urged voters to see through what he termed the BJP’s “politics of emotion and deception,” asserting that the real homage to any departed leader lies in “honest governance and people-centric policies, not in using their legacy for electoral gain.”
Invoking the recent Rajya Sabha elections, Tony appealed to the electorate to “once again unite under the INDIA Alliance banner” to defeat what he called BJP’s “hollow emotional politics.”
“The people of Jammu and Kashmir have already shown their wisdom once,” Tony said, “and it’s time Nagrota does the same — by voting for real change, not emotional theatrics.”
