Srinagar, Aug 23: Union Minister Jitendra Singh on Sunday attended a BJP meeting of state office-bearers in Srinagar, where party leaders discussed public issues and finalised their strategy ahead of the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir Assembly session.

Leader of Opposition in the J&K Assembly Sunil Sharma said BJP office-bearers from across the Union Territory participated in the meeting to deliberate on issues concerning the people and matters likely to be raised during the Assembly proceedings.

Taking a swipe at Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Sharma alleged that the CM “does not like the opposition” and said the BJP would put forward its work and role before the people and the House.

“The BJP meeting taking place here today is extremely important. We have invited party office-bearers from every region of Jammu and Kashmir to discuss the public issues that will be raised during the upcoming Assembly session,” Sharma said.

He added that the party would discuss public concerns as well as its broader strategy for the session.

Referring to Omar Abdullah’s recent remarks, Sharma said, “We will present our role and our work before you. It is certainly true that the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir does not like the opposition.”

J&K Waqf Board Chairperson and Minister of State Syed Darakhshan Andrabi also spoke about the role of the opposition, saying it would continue to question the government regardless of its performance.

“The opposition is never happy when someone works hard. The opposition will naturally do its job,” Andrabi said, while praising the progress made in the country under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

On US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor’s recent remarks that Jammu and Kashmir is an important part of India, Andrabi said the people of the region were satisfied with their association with India.

She also said the situation in Jammu and Kashmir had normalised following the abrogation of Article 370 and accused Pakistan of continuing to raise the Kashmir issue.

The BJP meeting comes ahead of the Assembly session, with the party expected to raise issues related to governance, public welfare and other concerns affecting the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
