KARGIL, JUN 02: A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) delegation led by BJP Ladakh President Tashi Khachu on Tuesday visited Hunderman Brok, a historic border village in Kargil district, and interacted with residents on issues related to infrastructure, public welfare, tourism and local development.

The visit formed part of the party’s outreach to border communities, with leaders engaging with villagers to understand their concerns, developmental requirements and aspirations. The delegation also highlighted the strategic and historical importance of the village, situated close to the Line of Control (LoC).

The delegation included former Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC Leh, Advocate Tashi Gyalson; BJP Ladakh Vice President and former Chairman JKLC, Haji Anayat Ali; BJP District President Kargil, Assadullah Munshi; BJP Mahila Morcha President Rinchen Dolkar; Media Coordinator Rinchen Angmo; BJYM District President Mohd Hassanain Rocky; Mandal President Shakar Chiktan; Kacho Shamim; and BJYM State Executive Member Mohd Askary.

During the interaction, party leaders discussed issues concerning connectivity, tourism promotion and public infrastructure, while assuring residents that their concerns would be taken up at appropriate forums. The delegation also acknowledged the role of border communities in safeguarding the region’s social and cultural fabric despite the challenges associated with living in frontier areas.

Referring to the historical significance of Hunderman Brok, BJP leaders noted that the village occupies a distinctive place in the history of the Kargil region. Often described as the “Ghost Village of Kargil”, the settlement bears remnants of earlier conflicts and the displacement experienced by local communities in the aftermath of successive India-Pakistan wars.

The leaders observed that the village stands as a reminder of the human impact of border conflicts and the resilience displayed by its residents over decades. They stressed the need to preserve Hunderman Brok’s historical heritage while promoting it as a destination of cultural and tourism interest.

The delegation reaffirmed its commitment to the development of border villages and called for sustained efforts to improve infrastructure, livelihood opportunities and public services in strategically important frontier regions.
