BJP delegation meets LG Ladakh, seeks Age relaxation, resolution of lease deed issues

Leh, Apr 08: A delegation of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), led by its Ladakh unit president Tashi Gyaltson Khachu, on Tuesday called on the Lieutenant Governor and submitted a memorandum pressing for immediate administrative intervention on two pressing concerns — age relaxation in government recruitment and resolution of long-pending lease deed matters.

The meeting brought into focus growing unease among job aspirants and leaseholders across the Union Territory, with the delegation arguing that procedural delays have compounded challenges for both groups in recent years.

According to the memorandum, a combination of delayed recruitment cycles, limited notifications and disruptions over the past few years has left many eligible candidates at a disadvantage. Several aspirants, it noted, have either crossed the prescribed upper age limit or are on the verge of doing so, effectively narrowing their chances of entering government service.

The delegation urged the administration to consider granting a one-time relaxation in the upper age limit for forthcoming recruitment processes. Such a measure, it argued, would help restore parity and provide a fair chance to those who have been impacted by circumstances beyond their control.

The issue of land lease deeds formed the second major plank of the representation. The memorandum pointed out that numerous lease deeds issued earlier under land grant provisions have expired, while the absence of a clear and streamlined renewal mechanism has left leaseholders in a state of uncertainty.

Highlighting procedural bottlenecks, the delegation called for early renewal of expired lease deeds and execution of fresh agreements through a transparent and simplified process. It maintained that delays in this regard have affected livelihoods and disrupted economic activity linked to these land holdings.

The concerns, the delegation emphasised, have wider implications for the socio-economic stability of the region. It urged the Lieutenant Governor to treat the issues with urgency and initiate timely corrective measures.

The administration has been requested to prioritise both matters and extend necessary support to ensure relief to affected sections at the earliest.
