Lucknow, Apr 22: Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday accused the BJP of ‘deceiving democracy’ and deliberately creating confusion regarding women’s reservation to mislead the public.
“The Women’s Reservation Law has already been passed by Parliament with consensus in 2023. Yet the BJP leaders do not stop spreading lies. They resort to propaganda to divert attention from core issues like corruption, loot, inflation, and unemployment because they are terrified of the unity of the PDA (Pichhda, Dalit, Alpashankhyak),” he said.
Addressing a meeting of former candidates and leaders from constituencies reserved for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes at the party headquarters here, Yadav, according to a party statement, alleged that the BJP treats SP workers like “enemies” and operates with “low-level” conduct.
“BJP is an organised gang whose primary agenda is to spread hatred and create division in society. The BJP is deceiving democracy. Their conduct is sub-standard, and they treat Samajwadi Party workers as if they are enemies,” Yadav said.
Exhorting party cadres to prepare for the 2027 Assembly elections, Yadav said the public has lost faith in the current government, and the BJP is already functioning like an “opposition party” due to its waning influence.
“There should be no mistake in the 2027 UP assembly elections. The public’s trust in the BJP is gone, and their defeat is certain (in 2027). This time, they are destined to be ousted from power,” he asserted.
Yadav emphasised that the battle for 2027 would be fought on the ground and urged leaders to focus on booth-level management.
“We must start working for 2027 from today itself. Focus specifically on the booth level because the election will be won on the ground. Do not depend on others; rely on your own strength. In the 2022 elections, the BJP toyed with the democratic system. We must save democracy and restore the dignity of the people,” he said.
Reiterating his party’s commitment to social justice, the SP chief stated that the PDA base is expanding and remains united. “The Samajwadi Party is committed to establishing a rule of social justice where everyone will get their due,” he noted.
The meeting was attended by senior leaders, including former cabinet minister Rajendra Chaudhary, state president Shyam Lal Pal, and National President of Samajwadi Mahila Sabha, Seema Rajbhar.
