Srinagar Dec 17: BJP demanded a thorough investigation into NGOs proliferating in Jammu and Kashmir, alleging many operate unregistered, receive foreign funding, and fuel terrorism revival in the region.
Party spokesperson Altaf Thakur highlighted that while only 239 NGOs are registered, around 16,000 exist, with credible evidence of funds from countries like Germany, Japan, the US, Gulf nations, and Pakistan being channeled into terror activities. He clarified the party supports legitimate NGOs but urged scrutiny of local collections for orphans and foreign inflows since the 1990s.
Thakur appealed to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Government of India, and J&K LG to scan, deregister, and shut down anti-national outfits, noting prior bans and raids but criticizing police lapses in oversight. He stressed eliminating these “terror-supporting networks” is essential to eradicate terrorism permanently.
On Bihar CM Nitish Kumar’s viral video controversy, Thakur dismissed objections, praising him as “Vikas Pursh” who ended jungle raj and viewing the veil adjustment as innocuous during certificate distribution.
