Srinagar, Oct 23: Leader of Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly and BJP legislator Sunil Sharma on Thursday criticised the government for scheduling only a brief autumn session, alleging that it has curtailed space for debate on urgent public concerns.
Calling the 5–6 day duration “highly inadequate,” Sharma said the truncated calendar reflects the administration’s unwillingness to face questions on issues that directly affect citizens. “Electricity, water supply and road infrastructure are in distress. People are waiting for basic facilities. The government has failed on all fronts,” he told reporters.
The BJP leader also trained guns on Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, observing that the opposition had expected a more engaged legislative exercise under his watch. “It is unfortunate that he neither gave ample time for the session nor is he working for the people,” Sharma remarked.
Despite the compressed schedule, he said the opposition will press hard on governance lapses. “We are ready and prepared to raise public issues effectively during the limited session,” he asserted.
On the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections, Sharma expressed confidence that the BJP is “fully poised for victory.”
