Jammu, Jan 27: Bank employees across Jammu observed a strike on Tuesday under various bank unions, demanding implementation of a five-day banking work week, as the nationwide agitation entered its fourth consecutive day.
Union members gathered in Jammu for the all-India strike, displaying placards and raising slogans to press their long-pending demand. The All India Bank Officers Confederation reported nearly eight lakh bank employees participating nationwide, severely disrupting banking services across the region.
Addressing protesters, Confederation representative Rajesh Khat highlighted prior discussions with the Reserve Bank of India and government, where assurances for a five-day week were given but remain unimplemented. He pointed to mounting workload, staff shortages, extended hours, and mental stress plaguing bank employees.
Union leaders emphasized that a five-day schedule is crucial for work-life balance and operational efficiency. They warned of continued agitation if demands remain unmet, with several bank branches reporting disrupted services due to the ongoing strike.
