Leh, Apr 09 : In a concerted push to institutionalise wellness practices within the education system, the Directorate of AYUSH, Union Territory of Ladakh, on Wednesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Lamdon Model Senior Secondary School, Leh, to establish a dedicated Yoga Wellness and Meditation Centre on the school campus.
The agreement, formalised between Dr. Tashi Thinlas and Tsewang Dolma under the National AYUSH Mission, sets out a structured framework for integrating yoga and meditation into the daily academic environment while extending its outreach to the wider community.
The collaboration is envisaged as a multi-layered intervention, combining regular yoga instruction with guided meditation sessions, particularly for hostel students, alongside the formation of student-led Yoga Club activities and community outreach programmes. Officials said the initiative is designed to promote a preventive approach to health and to encourage a balanced lifestyle among young learners.
Under the terms of the MoU, the Directorate of AYUSH will provide trained yoga instructors, technical expertise, and limited financial and institutional support. The school administration will facilitate infrastructure, ensure logistical coordination, and mobilise participation from both students and staff to sustain the programme.
The agreement also places emphasis on capacity-building, with provisions for training school personnel to gradually assume a more active role in conducting wellness activities. The longer-term objective, officials indicated, is to develop the institution into a demonstrative model for integrating traditional wellness systems within formal education settings.
The initiative reflects an evolving policy direction in Ladakh that seeks to align educational institutions with broader public health goals, particularly through the adoption of preventive and holistic health practices.
The MoU will remain in force for one year, with the possibility of extension subject to mutual consent and an assessment of its outcomes. Both signatories expressed confidence that the programme would gain traction within the school and serve as a template for similar collaborations across the region.
