JAMMU: Padma Shri Padma Sachdev Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu,in collaboration with JK Pollution Control Committee (JKPCC) and the Department of Education, successfully organized an Awareness Campaign on the theme “From Plastic to Eco-Friendly Bags” under the banner of 8 J&K Girls Battalion NCC Jammu.
The programme aimed at sensitizing students and the community about the harmful effects of plastic usage and promoting sustainable alternatives such as jute and cloth bags. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from NCC cadets, students, and faculty members.
The programme was graced by Special Guest, Maj. Praveen, AO 8 jk Girls Bn NCC Jammu highlighted the importance of disciplined action in adopting eco-friendly practices.
The highlight of the event was an insightful lecture delivered by Sh. Randeep Manhas, Scientist, JKPCC, who elaborated on the environmental hazards caused by plastic pollution and stressed the urgent need for collective responsibility in reducing plastic consumption.
Adding a creative and impactful dimension to the campaign, NCC cadets actively prepared handmade eco-friendly bags and awareness placards. These bags were thoughtfully distributed to local shopkeepers and street vendors, encouraging them to reduce dependence on plastic carry bags.
Further strengthening the outreach, the cadets presented a powerful Nukkad Natak conveying a strong message against plastic usage, followed by an Awareness Rally in the market area of Gandhi Nagar engaging the public and spread awareness on sustainable practices.
The event was conducted under the patronage of Dr. Kulvinder Kour, Principal of the college, who reiterated the institution’s commitment to environmental awareness and sustainable development. Dr. Neetu Raina, Head of the Department of Education,also extended her support and encouraged students to adopt eco-conscious lifestyles.The faculty members who witnessed and supported the event were Prof.Parihaar,Dr.Liakat Jafri,Prof.Sarita Dogra,Lt.Prof.Suman Bala,Prof.Neeraj Sharma,Dr.Rippy Bawa and Dr.Rekha.
The programme was efficiently planned and coordinated by Lt. Prof. Rukhsana Kousar, ANO, who ensured the successful execution of all activities. The campaign concluded with a pledge by all participants to minimize plastic use and promote eco-friendly alternatives for a greener tomorrow.
