Khaltse, Feb 14: Acting on the directions of Sub-Divisional Magistrate Khaltse, Mohd Sharif, a market checking squad carried out a surprise inspection across Khaltse market and adjoining areas.
The joint team, led by Naib Tehsildar Khaltse Asgar Ali, comprised Tehsil Supply Officer (FCS & CA Department Khaltse) Afzal Khan, Sub-Inspector Skarma Angchok from Police Station Khaltse, B.H.W Tsewang Namgail from the Health Department Khaltse, along with officials of the FCS & CA Department and police personnel.
During the inspection, the squad examined restaurants, hotels, vegetable vendors and chicken sellers to ensure compliance with food safety and consumer protection norms. In a major action, the team seized 1.5 quintals of rotten frozen chicken from a shop in the market. The spoiled stock was disposed of on the spot to prevent any risk to public health.
Officials also scrutinised the use of non-commercial LPG cylinders in hotels and restaurants. Rate lists displayed by vendors, food quality standards, hygiene conditions and mandatory documentation were verified during the drive.
According to officials, a total fine of Rs 7,000 was imposed on defaulters found violating norms.
The inspection was aimed at ensuring fair trade practices and safeguarding consumers from unsafe food items. Authorities have reiterated that such drives will continue to maintain standards and protect public health in Khaltse and nearby areas.
