JAMMU, May 19: Police Station Arnia under Jammu Police Headquarters Zone took swift action against illegal transportation of timber during routine naka checking in the Salehar area on 13.05.2026.
During the checking operation, police intercepted three vehicles transporting wooden logs without valid documentation. The seized vehicles included a tractor trolley bearing registration number JK02DS-4054, driven by Mohd Hussain of Salehar, Bishnah; a truck bearing registration number JK08D-1277 driven by Naresh Kumar of Salalpur, Kathua; and another tractor bearing chassis number BZJSE397700S3 driven by Shokat Ali of Mai Chak.
Upon inquiry, the drivers failed to produce any valid permits or authorization documents from the concerned authorities regarding the transportation of timber and could not provide satisfactory explanations.
Following directions from the Tehsildar R.S. Pura, the concerned revenue official visited the spot, after which the vehicles along with the timber were taken into custody and shifted to Police Station Arnia for further necessary action.
The Forest Range Officer was also informed to take over custody of the seized vehicles and wood logs and initiate proceedings under relevant provisions of the Forest Act.
Jammu Police reiterated its commitment to curbing illegal activities and protecting forest resources in the region through strict enforcement action.
