LEH: Fostering unity, social welfare, and development in remote border areas, a new Community Hall has been constructed at the Model Village Phobrang under the Indian Army’s flagship initiative, Operation Sadbhavana.
The newly built hall is designed to serve as a multi-purpose centre for community gatherings, social and cultural events, awareness programs, and youth engagement activities. Situated in one of the remotest parts of Ladakh, close to the Line of Actual Control (LAC), the facility symbolizes the Army’s sustained commitment to improving the quality of life in frontier villages.
The hall will provide a common platform for villagers to interact, learn, and collaborate on developmental activities, thereby strengthening social cohesion and mutual trust among the residents. It is also expected to host educational workshops, vocational training sessions, and youth-centric programs aimed at empowering the younger generation and reducing rural migration.
The construction of the community hall is part of a broader series of civic action projects under Operation Sadbhavana, through which the Indian Army has been implementing initiatives in education, healthcare, women empowerment, and infrastructure development across Ladakh.
Villagers of Phobrang expressed their gratitude to the Army for the initiative, calling it a much-needed facility that would bring people together and create new opportunities in the high-altitude border settlement.
The project stands as a testament to the Army’s enduring partnership with the local population, reflecting the spirit of “Sadbhavana” — goodwill and harmony — and its commitment to building resilient, self-reliant border communities.
