DRASS: The Indian Army has reopened the Seasonal Bakarwal School at Mugalpura under Operation Sadbhavana, reaffirming its commitment to supporting education among nomadic communities during their annual migration to the high-altitude pastures near Drass.
The school welcomed 30 students on its opening day, providing a learning space for children of the migratory Bakarwal community who often face disruptions in education due to their seasonal movement.
Two teachers have been deployed to conduct classes and ensure continuity of learning during the summer months. The reopening ceremony was attended by parents and members of the local community, who welcomed the initiative.
Officials said the seasonal school has been established to bridge educational gaps among migratory families and ensure that children continue their studies despite the challenges posed by their traditional lifestyle.
The initiative seeks to provide a supportive and accessible learning environment while encouraging greater participation in education among children from remote and underserved communities.
Army officials said the programme forms part of broader efforts under Operation Sadbhavana aimed at promoting education, community welfare and social development in border and high-altitude regions.
Community members appreciated the reopening of the school, noting that it would help children remain connected to formal education during their stay in the summer grazing areas.
The seasonal school is expected to function throughout the migration period, providing educational support and learning opportunities to Bakarwal children in the region.
