JAMMU, November 2 : An Army porter was seriously injured after accidentally triggering an anti-personnel landmine near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district on Monday.
The incident occurred around 11:30 am when Krishan Lal, a resident of Langar village, accidentally stepped on a landmine while moving through a forward area in the Nowshera sector, officials said.
The powerful explosion resulted in the loss of his right foot. He was immediately evacuated and shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
Officials said forward areas along the LoC are dotted with landmines to prevent infiltration from across the border.
However, some mines occasionally become dislodged or get washed away due to heavy rainfall, posing serious risks to residents and people working in these border areas. Such incidents have previously resulted in accidental explosions and injuries.
