Leh, Jul 10: The Indian Army today launched a mountaineering expedition to Mamostang Kangri, one of the highest and most remote peaks in the Eastern Karakoram Range. The team of 12 trained climbers was flagged off from Leh by Maj Gen Dinesh Kumar Singh, Chief of Staff, Fire & Fury Corps.
Set at an altitude of 7,516 meters, Mamostang Kangri is the tallest peak in the Rimo Muztagh subrange. The journey ahead includes sharp inclines, dangerous glaciers, and rugged terrain, demanding technical skill and physical endurance from the expedition members.
This operation reflects the Army’s enduring tradition of embracing extreme challenges with discipline and grit. As the climbers make their way through the Rimo Glacier, their goal is not only to scale the peak but also to further the spirit of adventure that characterizes military undertakings in high-altitude regions.
Mamostang Kangri, largely untouched and located in the farthest stretches of Ladakh, remains relatively unknown to the broader mountaineering community. A successful ascent is expected to draw the attention of international climbers, potentially opening new pathways for adventure tourism in the region.
As the team begins its 20-day mission, their progress will be closely watched by the mountaineering fraternity and supporters of high-altitude exploration.
