ANANTNAG, Apr 27: Anantnag Police suspended an Investigating Officer (IO) from Police Station Anantnag for skipping mandatory arrest procedures in the probe into last week’s vandalism at Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag.
“SSP Anantnag takes strict action after the Investigating Officer (IO) fails to follow mandatory arrest procedure in FIR 118/2026. Anantnag police is committed to due process,” the police posted on X.
The case, registered under FIR No. 118/2026, involved vandalism and assault on medical staff. Four suspects were arrested for ransacking the hospital after a Srigufwara, Bijbehara resident died from cardiac arrest despite resuscitation. They were bailed out due to insufficient evidence.
Agitated attendants allegedly assaulted doctors, prompting a staff protest against the “sheer hooliganism” and calls for strict action.
The IO neglected key arrest protocols, prompting SSP Amod Ashok Nagpure to suspend him. Anantnag Police reaffirmed its dedication to legal due process and investigative accountability.
