Srinagar, Jul 30: Amid speculations about a change at the Raj Bhavan, former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad called on Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha here on Wednesday, an official spokesperson said.
“Azad discussed various important matters pertaining to the development of Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.
The meeting comes amid speculations about a change at the Raj Bhavan, the LG’s residence in the Union Territory.
Meanwhile, National General Secretary, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Tarun Chugh also called on Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. He was accompanied by Sunil Sharma, Leader of Opposition (LoP) in J&K Legislative Assembly and Sat Sharma, President, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), J&K Union Territory.
Getting back to Azad’s recent political assumptions, Chairman Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) recently described the ‘reports’ about his nomination for the post of Vice President as ‘mere conjectures’ and asked people of J&K and media not to ‘peddle such rumours.’
With regard to J&K statehood, the former union minister asserted that it would be restored, but it would be in the interest of everyone if it were restored as early as possible.
He had stated that Jammu and Kashmir is full of virtues. The place is unique because of its amazing and distinctive characteristics, including natural splendour. No wonder it is called the ‘paradise on earth.’ But at the same time, rumours also fly thick and fast here. Therefore, it is my request to the people and media here to put rumours to zero and focus on constructive works.’
Azad said he was disappointed to see declining bonhomie among politicians of different parties.
Later in the day, Shashi Ranjan, Film Maker and Chairman Indian Television Academy (ITA), along with Pradeep Sharma, Film Maker & Founder of Citara Group and Rahul Nehra, Founder & Managing Director Citara Group called on LG Sinha.
The delegation discussed the promotion of cultural and film-related activities in Jammu Kashmir.
