New Delhi: A high alert has been issued in majority of States and Cities across the nation following a blast in a car near the Red Fort metro station in New Delhi on Monday evening.
Security has been beefed up at vital installations across majority of these cities and states of India.

A senior police officer said a “precautionary alert” has been issued for Mumbai.
“All the unit commanders at the district level in Maharashtra and commissioners of cities have been instructed to remain alert to avoid any untoward incidents”, a police official said.
Police are maintaining a strong vigil and stepped up security at important places and vital installations in the state and Mumbai, the official said.
Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) have intensified patrolling at major railway stations, including Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Lokmanya Tilak Terminus, Dadar, Thane, and Kalyan, an official said.
Dog squads and bomb detection and disposal teams are also pressed into service to identify suspicious objects at railway stations.
The Railway Police have appealed to passengers to travel cautiously and avoid touching unidentified objects, the official said.
Likewise, a red alert has been sounded in Punjab on Monday evening following a blast near the Red Fort in Delhi that claimed eight lives and left several injured.
“In wake of the blast in New Delhi, a Red Alert has been sounded across all districts in the state of Punjab,” said a Punjab police department spokesperson.
Commissioners of police and Senior Superintendents of Police have been asked to remain alert, said the spokesperson.
Police force has been deployed at sensitive and vulnerable spots.
Checking of vehicles and suspicious people have been intensified, added the spokesperson.
Similarly, in the wake of the Delhi blast incident which left at least eight dead, a high alert was sounded Monday evening in neighbouring Haryana, with special vigil being maintained in NCR districts of the state.
A high-intensity explosion ripped through a car near the Red Fort in the national capital on Monday evening, gutting several vehicles and killing at least eight people, officials said.
“High alert across Haryana state in view of #Delhi incident. People are requested to remain calm. If any suspicious person or unclaimed object is seen, inform ‘112’ (emergency helpline),” Haryana Director General of Police O P Singh said in a post in Hindi on X.
“All #police officers are in their respective areas,” he added.
The DGP said that vehicle checking is being done at inter-state borders. Public transport, parking areas, hotels and dharamshalas are also being checked.
Special vigilance is being maintained in NCR districts, he said.
Meanwhile, an official statement said the Haryana government has issued instructions to all district magistrates to maintain special vigilance in districts bordering Delhi.
Instructions have also been issued to maintain special vigilance at crowded public places and historical sites, it said. An appeal has been issued not to lent ear to any rumours, it said.
Meanwhile, all police units in Gujarat have been asked to remain alert and increase patrolling as a precautionary measure in view of an explosion in a car in Delhi which killed at least eight people on Monday evening, officials said.

“Every police unit has been asked to be vigilant and increase patrolling in their respective regions” he said.
Following the DGP’s directive, police in all the major cities and districts in Gujarat have swung into action, officials said.
Security has been beefed up at vital installations like railway stations, and police teams have started conducting foot patrolling, Surat police commissioner Anupam Singh Gehlot said.
“There is no need to panic. I appeal to people to inform police if they spot any suspicious person in their area. Our police teams are on the ground at present. They have started checking vehicles on roads, especially those entering or leaving the airport. We are taking all possible precautionary steps,” said Gehlot.
