Baramati, Jan 29: The last rites of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar were held with full state honours at Vidya Pratishthan Ground in Baramati on Thursday, as thousands of mourners and political leaders bid farewell to the NCP chief.
Ajit Pawar’s mortal remains were taken from Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar Government Medical College to his Katewadi residence early in the morning, before being carried in a flower‑decorated rath through Baramati for public darshan. His elder son, Parth Pawar, performed the final rites at the Vidya Pratishthan campus, with his younger son Jay also present, as Union ministers Amit Shah, Nitin Gadkari and other dignitaries attended the cremation.
Pawar, 66, died on January 28 when the Learjet 45 he was travelling in crashed near Baramati airport, killing all five on board. The Maharashtra government has declared a three‑day state mourning and a public holiday in his memory.
