Youlchung, Feb 20 : In a heartwarming outreach, the SMC from AF Station Leh brought vital medical care and supplies to the remote Ladakh village of Youlchung, 199 km from Leh and cut off all winter by heavy snow—making it a lifeline for its 90 residents.
Led by Wing Commander Vaibhav Sadiwal (SMO, 21 Wing) and a medical assistant, the team checked 52 villagers complaining of various issues. They measured vitals like BP, pulse, temperature, SpO2, random blood sugar, height, weight; did full physicals, eye, and ENT exams; handed out meds; and gave follow-up tips.
Beyond checkups, they taught personal hygiene, beating seasonal bugs, balanced diets, safe water, and waste handling. As humanitarian help, 250 kg of rations—chocolates, veg tins, fruit cocktail, atta, sugar, pickle—went to families. Villagers joined in eagerly, boosting health access and community ties.
