Leh, Apr 23 : In a move aimed at strengthening youth engagement in uniformed training programmes, Major General Anupinder Bevli on Wednesday announced the expansion of the Senior Division Wing at Higher Secondary School Diskit, doubling its capacity from 50 to 100 cadets.
The announcement came during his visit to the institution, where he addressed cadets of the 1st Battalion NCC Ladakh and reviewed their activities. The increase in intake is expected to widen access for students seeking enrolment in the National Cadet Corps (NCC), particularly in remote regions of Ladakh.
Commending the cadets for their discipline and commitment, Major General Bevli noted the high standards maintained by the unit. He also praised the cultural programme presented during the visit, with special mention of the dance performances, and extended an invitation to the cadets to participate in the forthcoming Republic Day celebrations in Jammu.
Further initiatives were outlined during the interaction, including the installation of an open gym on the school premises. The facility is intended to promote physical fitness and encourage a culture of regular training among students.
Recognising academic merit alongside co-curricular excellence, the ADG awarded a cash prize of Rs 2,000 to cadet Stanzin Geychet for securing the second position at the district level in the recent CBSE Class 10 examinations.
The event was attended by the Commanding Officer of 1st Battalion NCC Ladakh, along with the In-charge Principal and faculty members of the school.
The visit concluded with a message emphasising discipline, leadership, and holistic development—principles that continue to define the NCC’s outreach among youth in the Union Territory.
