Kargil, May 22 : Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC) Kargil, Ghulam Mohd, JKAS, on Thursday directed concerned departments to expedite infrastructure development and winter preparedness measures at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) Khumbathang, while assuring administrative support for strengthening facilities at the residential institution.

Chairing a meeting of the Vidyalaya Management Committee (VMC), the ADDC reviewed the overall functioning of the school and held detailed deliberations on issues concerning student welfare, utility services and infrastructure requirements, particularly in view of the harsh winter conditions in the region.

The meeting examined proposals related to improvement of the heating system, insulation works and replacement of water supply pipes, besides reviewing the proposed upgradation of the electricity transformer from 250 KVA to 450 KVA to meet the institution’s growing power requirements.

Officials also discussed arrangements for uninterrupted electricity and food supplies during winter, strengthening of emergency healthcare facilities and measures for improving overall campus management during periods of extreme weather.

During the review, the ADDC instructed concerned departments to take immediate corrective measures and ensure early execution of pending developmental works identified by the institution.

The Power Development Department (PDD) was directed to explore the feasibility of providing a dedicated electricity line to the school to ensure uninterrupted power supply, while on-the-spot directions were also issued regarding establishment of an agriculture greenhouse within the campus.

The meeting further reviewed the requirement of a new institutional vehicle, winter gas supply arrangements, provision of wood and coal for emergency use, installation of beds in the newly constructed dormitory and repair and maintenance of internal roads within the institution.

Sanitation infrastructure also figured prominently during the discussions, with officials reviewing the need for construction of additional Ladakhi toilets for students and ensuring adequate fuel supply for generator sets during winter months.

Assuring support through CAPEX and other available budgetary provisions, Ghulam Mohd said the administration remained committed to improving educational infrastructure and ensuring better living and learning conditions for students in remote areas of the district.

He also advised the institution to focus on innovation, skill-based education and practical learning approaches to encourage creative thinking and social responsibility among students alongside academic development.

The meeting was attended by Councillor 19-Saliskote Constituency Mohd Sajjad Khan, Executive Engineer SVD Sankoo, Principal JNV Khumbathang Raj Kumar, Chief Planning Officer Kargil Kacho Mohd Hussain, principals of educational institutions, faculty members and parent representatives.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Principal Raj Kumar thanked the administration and committee members for addressing the institution’s concerns and expressed hope that the proposed developmental works would be implemented in a time-bound manner through coordinated efforts.
