Srinagar, Apr 3: The Anti‑Corruption Bureau (ACB), Jammu & Kashmir, has filed a charge‑sheet before the Special Judge, Anti‑Corruption Court, Baramulla, against two public servants in a bribery trap case registered in Baramulla district.
The accused have been identified as Altaf Hussain Khan, then Naib Tehsildar, Uri, and Pardeep Kumar, Patwari, Halqa Uri, and the case is registered as FIR No. 12/2024 of Police Station ACB Baramulla.
According to the ACB, a resident of Uri had purchased land measuring 10 marlas, constructed a house, and approached the Tehsil office for requisite revenue documents following a dispute with the seller. The complainant alleged that the accused officials initially demanded a bribe of ₹10 lakh, later negotiated down to ₹1 lakh, for providing the documents.
After refusing to pay, the complainant approached Police Station ACB with a written complaint. The ACB, upon verifying the allegations, registered a case and laid a trap. During the operation, Altaf Hussain Khan was caught red‑handed while demanding and accepting ₹50,000 from the complainant. The tainted money was recovered from his possession and he was arrested on the spot, followed by several remands in police and judicial custody.
The ACB said its investigation prima facie established the involvement of both accused, including the role of Patwari Pardeep Kumar, based on evidence collected during the probe.
After obtaining prosecution sanction from the Government of Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir, the ACB filed the charge‑sheet against both accused under Section 7 and Section 12 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, read with Section 61 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The court has fixed May 2, 2026, as the next hearing date in the case.
ACB officials added that this is the seventh charge‑sheet filed by Police Station ACB Baramulla before the Special Judge in different corruption cases in 2026.
