JAMMU, May 31: Leader of Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly and senior BJP leader Sunil Sharma on Saturday launched a sharp attack on Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, alleging that the Abdullah family prioritises political privileges over public interest and has never stepped away from power.
Addressing media persons, Sharma said, “Abdullahs don’t resign; Omar would settle for anything below Union Territory status as long as there is no cut in protocol,” while criticising the National Conference’s stance on the demand for restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
He alleged that the Abdullah family has historically focused on retaining power and official protocol rather than addressing people’s aspirations, accusing the party of misleading the public on key constitutional and political issues.
Sharma further claimed that the National Conference’s politics revolves around positions and privileges, while asserting that the BJP remains committed to development, transparency, and strengthening democratic institutions in Jammu and Kashmir.
The remarks come amid ongoing political debate over the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir and its future administrative structure as a Union Territory.
