New Delhi, Oct 4: More than a dozen workers of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) were detained by the police while they were protesting at India Gate for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
The party’s Delhi unit chief Saurabh Bharadwaj and MLA Sanjeev Jha were among the detainees.
Gyanesh Kumar has been accused of allowing irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
On X, Bharadwaj said he was turned upside down by Delhi Police at India Gate to hide his face from cameras.
“These are my shoes in the air,” he said, sharing a photograph.
Jha said those in power cannot escape people’s questions and their concerns over voting rights.
They should be addressed through transparency and facts, rather than “silence, pressure or police action,” he said.
A police officer said that at least 25 AAP workers were detained during the protest.
