Damascus, October 1: At least seven people were killed and four others injured after attackers opened fire on a small passenger bus in western Syria late Wednesday, state media reported.
The attack took place near the Masyaf Bridge in Homs province, according to Syria’s state-run SANA news agency.
The victims were employees of a company who were travelling home after work, authorities said. First responders transported the injured to hospitals in and around Homs, while security forces launched an investigation at the scene.
Images from the site reportedly showed blood stains and broken glass inside the bus.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and no group has claimed responsibility. Syrian authorities have not identified any suspects so far.
Homs Internal Security Forces Commander Brigadier General Bassem Mohammad Shaaban described the shooting as an attempt to undermine security in the province.
The attack comes as Syrian authorities continue to face security challenges following more than 13 years of conflict and the fall of the Assad government in late 2024.
Authorities have reported preventing several planned attacks and disrupting activities by armed cells, but deadly shootings and explosions have continued to occur in Damascus and other parts of the country.
