Jammu, August 30: A retired Army personnel was killed after his throat was slit by a Chinese kite string while he was travelling on the Ring Road in Jammu, officials said.
Naib Subedar (Retd) Lakhvinder Singh suffered critical injuries after coming into contact with the banned string while riding a two-wheeler through the Bishnah area late Sunday, the officials said.
Singh was rushed to a hospital following the incident but succumbed to his injuries, they said.
According to officials, Singh was returning to his home in R S Pura after completing his duty at an industrial unit in Bari Brahmana, where he worked as a private security guard.
The sale and use of Chinese kite string, commonly known as ‘Manja’, has been prohibited by the authorities due to its potential to cause serious injuries and fatalities. Several shopkeepers have also been arrested in recent months for allegedly selling the banned material illegally across Jammu.
The latest incident has renewed concerns over the enforcement of the ban, with local residents demanding strict action against those involved in the sale and use of the prohibited string.
Police have registered a case under relevant sections of law and launched an investigation to identify those responsible and take legal action, officials said.
